Aug 1, 2012 · 101 posts · Joined 2011. #1 · Jun 30, 2012 (Edited) for awhile now i cant open the trunk of my car. it starting acting up about 2 weeks ago. id press the trunk release, n would take its time to open. but now i can only open the trunk with the key fob. so pretty much the button is done for. i dont wanna bring the car in for the fact of that ... Using spray silicone at all moving joints also helps. After 10 years I have noticed my trunk does not open as far after pushing open as it once used to. It's only going up 3-4 inches. I wish it had gas struts, but remember the GEN 1 was all about fuel efficiency. The day it came out gas was $4.00 per gallon.Approaching any corner of the car with this type of key will allow you to unlock the doors/trunk. This is a feature (it’s a proximity key), not a bug.
